The Charter
The founding covenant of the college of work
We, the faculty, the students, the practitioners, and the partners of Forkaia — assembled on this third day of September in the year two thousand twenty-six — do hereby charter The School of Work: an institution devoted to the principle that education is not the accumulation of theory, but the accumulation of proof. We hold that the traditional college has failed the modern learner; that the internship has failed the modern employer; and that the covenant between school and student, once meaningful, has become transactional. In its place we build this: a college where every student ships real work inside real companies, is credentialed by real employers, and graduates with real proof of capability. This charter is our covenant. We sign it on the day we enroll and honor it for the rest of our working lives.
Article IOf the Purpose
The purpose of Forkaia is to prepare its members for meaningful work in the age of intelligent machines, by educating them through work rather than about work. Every credential we grant shall be earned by shipped deliverables; every graduate shall carry proof of employer-verified capability; and every alumnus shall remain welcome in this institution for the whole of their career.
Article IIOf the Studios
The College shall be organized into eight Studios — Product & Design, Growth & Marketing, AI & Applied ML, Capital & Finance, Media & Storytelling, Operations, Engineering, and Sales & Revenue. Every student shall belong to one Studio for the duration of a semester and shall specialize within it. Studios may be added by act of the Dean and the Faculty Bench.
Article IIIOf the Covenant Between Student and School
The student pledges to ship what is asked, to honor the deadlines, to accept the feedback of Practitioners-in-Residence, and to contribute to the Guild and the Cohort Hall to which they are assigned. The school pledges in return to provide real work, real mentorship, real credentials, and, upon successful completion, to celebrate the student at Commencement with the offer letter of their choosing read aloud upon the stage.
Article IVOf the Ring & The Alumni Guild
Every graduate of the Bachelor of Work shall receive The Ring — hand-numbered to the class, engraved to the year, given only upon successful defense of a shipped body of work. The Ring shall be worn by all alumni and shall serve as the perpetual mark of membership in the Alumni Guild. It is agreed that any alumnus, upon request from another, shall provide a warm introduction within forty-eight hours. This is the Warm-Intro Oath, and it is binding.
Article VOf the Dispatch, The Stacks, and The Endowment
The Dispatch shall be the daily paper of record, published free to all readers, edited by alumni and reviewed by the Dean's office. The Stacks shall be the permanent research library, open to the public, wherein every paper published by any member of this institution shall be shelved and citable. The Endowment shall be the permanent fund of this college, sustained by alumni and friends of the institution, and applied solely to student aid, mentor stipends, and the long-term independence of the school.
Article VIOf the Rituals
The rituals of this institution shall be preserved: Sprint Zero, wherein every new member ships their first task within seven days; Track Registration Day, wherein every member selects the next term's course; Founding Day, observed the third day of September in perpetuity; and Commencement, held every May, wherein every graduate walks alone across the stage while their offer letter is read aloud to the assembly and the livestream.
Article VIIOf Amendment
This Charter may be amended by the Dean and the Faculty Bench, in council with a supermajority of the Chapter Presidents and one voting representative of each active class year, but never in such a way as to weaken the covenant between student and school, the sanctity of Commencement, or the free and public nature of The Dispatch, The Stacks, and this Charter itself.
The Covenant
By enrolling in this institution, I accept its work, its mentors, its Studios, its Guilds, and its Chapters. I pledge to ship what is asked of me, to help those in my cohort, to keep The Ring meaningful when I earn it, and to honor the Warm-Intro Oath for the whole of my career. In return, this school pledges to educate me not in what to think, but in how to build.
