3. How we use your data

We use the information we collect to:

  • Run the platform — match you to tasks, route submissions to partner companies, schedule mentorship;
  • Process payments — bill your membership, send receipts, handle refunds;
  • Issue credentials — generate offer letters, completion certificates, recommendation letters, LinkedIn endorsements;
  • Connect you to recruiters — only with your consent, share your verified work history with partner companies in our network;
  • Communicate with you — service updates, important account notices, optional newsletter (you can opt out anytime);
  • Improve the Service — analyze aggregated, de-identified usage to figure out what's working;
  • Keep things safe and legal — prevent fraud, enforce our Terms, comply with the law.

4. Who we share data with

Partner companies on the platform

When you claim a task and submit work, the relevant partner company sees: your name, the work you submitted, and any context needed to evaluate it. We don't share your payment details, contact information beyond email (and only with your consent), or unrelated profile data.

Service providers

We share data with vendors who help us run the Service, under contracts that require them to protect your data:

  • Stripe, Inc. — payment processing
  • Netlify, Inc. — site hosting and form submissions
  • Google LLC — email (Workspace), analytics, cloud storage
  • Anthropic / OpenAI — AI-assisted product features (de-identified where possible)

Legal & safety

We may disclose data if required by law, court order, or government request; to enforce our Terms; or to protect the safety, rights, or property of Forkaia, our members, or the public.

Business transfers

If Forkaia is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We'll notify you and the acquirer will be bound by this policy or one substantially similar.

We do not sell your personal information for money. We don't trade it to data brokers or marketing networks. Under California law (CPRA), the limited disclosures we make to service providers and partner companies are not considered "sale" or "sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising."

5. Cookies & tracking

We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies to:

  • Keep you logged in (essential session cookies);
  • Remember your settings;
  • Measure how the site is used (analytics).

You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but parts of the Service may stop working without them.

6. How long we keep data

We keep your personal data only as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law:

  • Active accounts — for the life of your membership;
  • Closed accounts — up to 3 years for credential verification (so we can still confirm your completion record to employers or schools);
  • Payment records — minimum 7 years to comply with tax and accounting laws;
  • Work product — at your request, we'll delete it any time after 90 days post-cancellation.

7. Your privacy rights

Regardless of where you live, you can ask us to:

  • Show you what data we have about you;
  • Correct anything that's wrong;
  • Delete your account and personal data (subject to legal retention requirements);
  • Send you a portable copy of your data;
  • Stop using your data for direct marketing.

Email support@forkaia.com with the subject "Privacy Request." We respond within 30 days.

8. California residents (CCPA / CPRA)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA) gives you the additional rights to:

  • Know what categories of personal information we've collected about you in the last 12 months and the purposes of collection;
  • Know what categories of personal information we've sold or shared in the last 12 months (we do not sell or share);
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (not applicable — we don't);
  • Limit the use of sensitive personal information;
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights.

To submit a verifiable consumer request, email support@forkaia.com.

9. EU / UK residents (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation, including the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Our lawful bases for processing are:

  • Contract — to deliver the membership you bought;
  • Legitimate interests — to run, secure, and improve the Service;
  • Consent — for optional marketing emails or recruiter intros;
  • Legal obligation — to comply with tax, accounting, and safety laws.

When we transfer data outside the EEA, we use Standard Contractual Clauses or other approved safeguards.

10. Children's privacy

Forkaia® is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal data, email support@forkaia.com and we'll delete it.

11. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards — TLS encryption, hashed passwords, restricted internal access — to protect your data. No system is perfect, though, and we can't guarantee absolute security. If you suspect your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at support@forkaia.com.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make a material change, we'll notify you (by email or in-app notice) at least 15 days before the change takes effect. The "Last updated" date at the top will always reflect the most recent version.
